Yakone – Foaled 5/2/06.   As of April of 2010 she is 15 Hands and nearly 1000 lbs.  The name is an Alaska name meaning “Red Aurora.” (or something of that sort.) Our daughter working at the University of Alaska got her office people to come up with an Alaskan name, and this one rose to the surface.  Yakone (Pronounced “yuh cone ee” not Yak One) is not registered, but I believe could be a registered paint if desired for breeding or other purposes. Her mother is a registered paint mare, Kootenay, that weighs around 1200 pounds, her sire is Apache, a registered Tennessee Walker. Yakone is a flashy filly. She is very quick and athletic. She was imprinted at birth.  She is a real lover, and has become a great ride.

She has the Tennessee Walker overstep and the quarter horse size and build.  I believe she may combine the best of both worlds, being both gaited, and a little heavier than some of the Walkers.  She is just four and I expect her to grow and fill out for the next couple of years.  I have ridden her with no bridle or saddle.  she is very responsive, and will make someone a wonderful companion and ride.

Her mother is very
tractable, and has been ridden and packed in a host of wilderness adventures. She has carried some large men with gear a lot of miles. Yakone promises to be larger and stronger than most of the other Walkers, but she does have the Walker over stride, and is at least partially gaited. She could be an excellent choice for someone who may need a little larger horse.

Her sire is
Apache, who is shown on this web site.
